On Sunday night, September 28th, the New York Giants took on the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey to play some great American football. This game in particular was very special for one young man, rookie QB Jaxson Dart. Freshly out of Ole Miss, Dart finally got his shot at the starting QB job after veteran Russell Wilson was benched after starting the Giants off 0-3. Jaxson Dart knew he had to step up and get his team their first win.
Jaxson Dart has been rocking the football scene since high school. Dart led his Corner Canyon Chargers to a 14-0 state champion season during his senior year, while passing for a national-led 4,691 yards and 67 touchdowns, earning him Desert New’s Mr. Football, MaxPreps National Player of the Year, and 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year.
Dart decided to play college football at the University of Southern California (USC) where he would play the 2021 season. Dart played very few games but would not redshirt and ultimately decided to continue his college career down south at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Dart played his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons there, playing 39 games, having 10,617 yards and 72 touchdowns, throwing 22 interceptions.
With Jaxson balling out at Ole Miss, this led to him declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. Dart was projected to be a late-first rounder, and that’s just what happened. The New York Giants selected him 25th overall, trading their second and third round picks to the Texans for him. After being selected, Dart said, “I’m grateful to be a part of this organization.” He also commented about immediately getting to work.
Now knowing this, let’s take a look at the game. This game was, although a nail-biter, a real good one.
The Giants started off with the ball, making multiple completions. A few of these completions were to sophomore star receiver Malik Nabers. It’s great to see the blooming of a strong duo coming to New York with Dart and Nabers. Nabers sadly got hurt in the second quarter and only finished with 2 receptions for 20 yards.
Dart on the other hand, scored the first touchdown of his career on the first drive. On the Chargers 20, Dart found an opening, and took off right into the endzone making the score 7-0. This definitely got Dart pumped, which led him to win the game and also gave the Giants all the momentum needed.
It was just not the Chargers’ day as their QB, Justin Herbert, threw for 203 yards, 1 TD, and 2 bad interceptions. This was also caused by Jaxson Dart getting into Herbert’s head pregame, with Dart making comments about his new girlfriend Madison Beer.
The final score was 21-18, with the Giants taking home the victory. Dart finished with 111 yards and a touchdown, while teammate tight end Theo Johnson had a touchdown to add to the score. Overall, this was a beautiful debut by the future star and the season, as it hopefully continues to bring more historic games like this for the young man.
