221 days ago, the Florida Gators were crowned the 2025 NCAA College Basketball National Champions. Today, it’s finally back in business. This is going to be one heck of a year in NCAA college basketball. We’re already seeing some fighting for the first pick between 3 players before games have even started. We’re witnessing history in the making.
We’ve seen big moves over the offseason. Players transferring, commitments, preseason performances, and more. With tournaments, rising freshman, and intense rivalries coming up, this year’s season is going to be one of the greatest there has been in awhile.
Many teams are entering the season with fresh rosters, like Duke who lost all 5 of their starters from last year, making the big step to go to the NBA. Duke features promising freshmen and seasoned veterans eager to make their mark. These include freshman Camron Boozer, who was ranked #3 in ESPN’s Top 100 last year. Cameron had a big preseason game scoring 33 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. Notably, several powerhouse programs such as Duke, Florida, and Purdue are looking to fight hard for this year’s national title and win the national championship. Meanwhile, underdog stories are brewing as smaller programs aim to upset big teams like Kansas, historically great, hasn’t been the same team since their win in 2022. This year, they’re led by their freshman who was ranked #1 in the nation last year Darryn Peterson, who dropped 26 points in his preseason debut against powerhouse Louisville.
Speaking of Louisville, Louisville has totally flipped their franchise around, being a major title contender this year after having a huge win over Kentucky, 96-88. Early standout performances by freshmen and transfers have already set the tone, with players like Xaivian Lee, transfer from Princeton, averaging 16, 6, and 5 last year for the Tigers who has so far been elite for the Gators, taking down Florida State on a big win Tuesday night.
We’ve also seen electric freshmen enter the scene like those I mentioned earlier, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer, but one in particular is having everyone shook, with that being AJ Dybantsa for the BYU Cougars. Man, is he something. He’s already averaging 18, 7, and 2, as a true freshman, while shooting a great 57% from the field. He’s special and we’re witnessing history.
While the season has just tipped off and has minutes more to go, the season is gonna be a special one folks. History is being made. Just make sure y’all tune in.
