One week after releasing her song, “Manchild”, Sabrina Carpenter announced in an Instagram post that her new album, Man’s Best Friend would be coming out on August 29th.
Fans were shocked Carpenter was releasing an album so soon after she started her Short n’ Sweet era. Following the announcement, Sabrina featured photos with various fans and a photo of a golden retriever to release the track titles on her instagram. The last track title, which she revealed herself as “Tears.” Fans thought Sabrina was trying to hint at something, which we now know was a music video.
The original cover for the album was a picture of Sabrina on all-fours, dog-like, with a faceless male figure gripping her hair.
Fans were not happy with this style of cover, saying it “set women back.” Other fans argued saying Carpenter was just using satire, and to “not take anything too lightly.” Humoring her fans once again, Sabrina announced that she was releasing another cover, this one featuring her in a black gown with her arm on a man’s shoulder.
Later on she went to her instagram captioning the post, “I signed some copies of Man’s Best Friend for you guys & here is a new alternate cover approved by God.” Over the weeks leading up to the release of MBF, Sabrina released two other alt covers making four available vinyls able to be purchased on her website. Each cover is said to be a different representation of the album. Following the album’s release, many fans have spoken out saying they felt Man’s Best Friend was rushed and felt half done. Many have complained saying the album feels too mature for her younger listeners, which is similar to what was said when Short n’ Sweet came out. Listeners have said the tracks on the album sound very similar.
However, there are some people who think this album is better than Short n’ Sweet, and previous albums, saying that the tracks are fun and easy to dance to. With the album’s release Sabrina posted to her instagram story saying that she was proud to release a bonus track for the album called “Such a funny way”. Fans believe that she may be releasing a deluxe album, but so far nothing has been announced.

Following the release of Man’s Best Friend, Sabrina recently did an interview with Zane Lowe from Apple Music, talking in depth about the new album, this new chapter in her life, and writing Man’s Best Friend. Sabrina talks about what she things she went through which caused inspiration for the songs, and what happened for her to write and go back into the studio so soon after the release of Short n’ Sweet. She talks about how fame has changed her and how fame itself has changed over time.
In the interview, Carpenter talks about how she accepts the criticism, and how she understands people experience different things and interpret lyrics and emotions differently, and how she may not like the criticism at times. Sabrina says that maybe they have a good point, even if she thinks differently, and only saw her interpretation of the moment.
In the interview, she says all people will take the album differently, but she hopes that people will find themselves in the lyrics no matter their experiences or stage of life.
