"Hamilton" released in theaters on Sept. 5, 2025.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the famous ongoing Broadway show, Hamilton. Written by Lin Manuel Miranda, the show is about Alexander Hamilton’s personal life, along with his work with George Washington, his post-political career, and his death after a duel with Aaron Burr. Unlike most Broadway shows, almost every song in Hamilton has rap lyrics instead of typical, slow paced musical numbers, making the show stand out against other Broadway repertoire of our time.
To recognize the success and impact this show has had, a film of the full show was released to movie theatres along with a special mini-documentary at the beginning that explains how the show came to be and some background stories on the actors and actresses playing lead roles in the production.
One of these actresses is Renee Elise Goldsberry, who plays Angelica Schuyler, the sister of Eliza Schuyler (Hamilton’s wife). Goldsberry shared that while they were in the process of rehearsals and performances in the beginning days of Hamilton, she was also a mom of two young children. Even though she may have seemed flawless on the outside, it was an incredibly difficult task to juggle two important things at the same time, stating that “striving for one threatened the other.” A full story on her life is set to be released as a documentary titled “Satisfied” (the name of her hit song in the show) sometime at the end of September.
In Bowling Green, screenings of Hamilton are being shown at local Regal theaters. BGHS student Katelyn Murph attended the movie last week and said, “I thought it was great. I’ve loved this show since I was young and it was fun to be able to see it in theatres.” She also commented on how much insight she gained from the documentary at the beginning, saying she “thought it was really inspirational and shared some points about Hamilton that aren’t as common”.
Before its theatrical release, “Hamilton” was released on Disney+ in 2020.
